Weathered and Without

Some faces are just too interesting to pass up. While searching for a new subject, I came across this one, courtesy of Alan Simpson (https://flic.kr/p/SMCZqU). I started this project with the intention of doing something a lot more stylized. However, when I began the detail paint stage, I started with a brush that was way too small, got caught up in working close up, and it ended up taking on a more realistic look than I really wanted. By the time I pulled out and realized my mistake, I had put in enough effort that I didn't really want to go back and start over. So, the colors are a little cartoonish, but the shading is a little more true to life. In the end, I like the effect - but the cramp in my hand from working that close up... wow.
