I'm going for more realism, this time - despite the slightly cross processed feel. I think, after a bit of trial and error, that I have achieved a reasonably realistic rock texture for the cliffs.

More playing around. No real goal in mind. This time, I played with using an HDR image for the light source. It wasn't quite bright enough, and I ended up adding back a regular sun lamp.

Had some fun with this pseudo abstract of bamboo shoots....

I'm fascinated by large trees. Where I live, in Dallas, we don't really have very large trees. I would dearly love to visit the redwoods in California some day. Just reading about them online I am amazed. The largest tree is about 379 feet tall, and is 600 years old - older than our country! If that isn't amazing enough, that tree is, in human years, only about 20 years old. That means it can live a hell of a lot longer, and might even grow a bit taller. With redwoods on my mind, I felt moved to draw one. No, I make no claim that this is entirely accurate. I did a bit of research online to get down the shape of the leaves, branches, and root system. This is a conglomeration of what I learned, and assumes that I found reliable sources - since I've never actually seen one with my own eyes.

Just a photo this time. This is an HDR shot I caught as a storm passed by recently. Did some modifications in Photoshop. The color is more intense than it was in reality (but the hue is about right), and the scene is considerably darker. I just liked how moody it became when I took it darker and boosted the saturation.

I listen to the reports, from the damage caused by the earthquake, to the tsunami, to the critical situation in the nuclear plants. This piece started out completely unrelated. But, as I listened to one piece of bad news after another, this is what evolved. The wave , which started as a full panel spiral, struck me as being similar to "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Wave_off_Kanagawa). Once my mind made that association, I couldn't see anything else. So, I rotated the piece and worked with it.
